The technique we use at the Toronto Hair Institute is a minimally invasive, non - surgical (no incision) technique. It is done under a local anesthetic, there is virtually no pain during the procedure and recovery is within one day, with very little discomfort. Many patients sleep during the procedure or watch TV. Most patients return to work the next day. There is no incision, no sutures, and another transplant can be done from the same donor site within 6 - 8 months after the procedure. With the traditional strip method, the donor site is gone forever.
Specific washing and care instructions are important and must be followed, otherwise there are no restrictions. Within 2 - 3 days of the procedure, no one will be able to tell that hair transplantation was done. Depending on the number of hairs transplanted, the hair may need to be cut very short, however this assists in all hair growing in simultaneously, giving a much more natural appearance. All transplanted hairs will grow as they did in the donor area and will last well into your 70’s. Some patients may require more than one session to get the density they desire, as well hair loss is progressive so other native hair that is lost will need to be replaced. Many procedures can be done using the same donor site within months of your procedure.
