You will have the consultation with your doctor. Please explain to him as clearly as possible your objectives and where you would like follicles to be placed.
You will discuss with the doctor the area we will need to extract your follicles from and if shaving of the area will be required.
We will take pre-operative photographs (for your file) in order to fully evaluate the result in 10 months time.
For the first part of the procedure (during the extraction of the hairs), you will by lying on your front, with a pillow under your stomach in order to be as comfortable as possible.
When the extraction has been completed you will then be lying on your back in order for the doctor to place the hairs.
Both the donor site and the recipient site are anesthetized with local anesthetic (exactly as is done at the dentist), this is a pain free procedure and you should expect only to feel a slight stinging for the first few injections of anesthetic.
The anesthetic lasts for three and a half hours and should you begin to feel sensitivity at any time, you will advise the doctor that you require more anesthetic.
We will take breaks throughout the procedure in order for you to have something to eat and drink or to go to the bathroom. Please feel free to request a break at any time.
Our main objective is for you to be as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure, so please let us know if you require an additional cushion, a blanket, to take a break, to listen to different music or watch TV. If you prefer to sleep you can of course advise the doctor and he will advise his staff to be quiet. Basically we are happy to hear any suggestions at all that will make you more comfortable. All of our staff are there for your comfort and satisfaction throughout the day.
At the end of the procedure we will explain the post operative directions.
